The above pictures show the inside of second class sleeper train compartment (car) which houses about 60 beds: lower and upper berths. These cabins are air-conditioned or fan-cooled common rooms. The common toilet rooms and washing basins are on-board the same train car.
The left hand side photo shows the lower berth in the chair position with a dinning table set. When you want your bed set up, you can ask the train attendent to get the things done. The right side photo shows the lower and upper berths set up for the sleeping. The upper berth has only a little room to sit.
The lights in the car is "on" all night.
These compartments are used for the routes between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Bangkok and Nong Khai (north east), and Bangkok and the southern cities. Normally a train contains 3 to 5 second class sleeper cars for the overnight routes.
The train provides bed sheets, pillow and pillow case, blanket and the curtains.
