Phu Soi Dao national park is located some 560 km north of Bangkok by land. There are train, car and air links between Bangkok and Uttaradit, the land distance of 491 km. Nam Pat village ( now a district town ) where the entrance to the park is located is 72 km , one and a half hours drive, to the east of Uttaradit. One can also travel to Uttaradit from Chiang Mai, a distance of 231 km, by car or train.

The park is bordering with Laos PDR in the north and north east. The park is a place where people can enjoy staying in the most splendid pine forest of Thailand.

The main purpose of visiting the park is hiking up the distance of 6.5 km to reach to the 1800m high Phu Soi Dao which takes about six hours. There are four or five steep hills with different names which add more flavor to the hiking. Porters can be arranged with the park office. Climbers must bring tents, gear and food along with them since there is no such facilities at the submit. On the way up to the submit one can enjoy not only the panoramic views but also the mountain brooks snaking down the crack of rocks here and there.

The famous monkey apple which is available during November till January could be bought in Nam Pat district where the park is located.

Suggested 3 days, 2 nights trip from Chiang Mai

Day 1
Take a car or train ride from Chiang Mai to Uttaradit. Sightseeing in the city and around. Overnight in Uttaradit.

Day 2
Leave Uttaradit early morning to the park. Climb Phu Soi Dao. Overnight at the submit.

Day 3
Descending. Come back to Uttaradit and head for Chiang Mai or Bangkok.
