Mae Sai - Tachileik across the river
On the left side is Thailand's Mae Sai town. The right side of the river Mae Sai is Myanmar's Tachileik town. Mae Sai is located in the northernmost province of Chiang Rai. This Thailand - Myanmar border town is one of the important border trading places between the two countries. There are many small and medium sized hotels and bungalows, shops selling various products of many origins in this town. Mae Sai is reached by car from Chiang Rai along highway route 101, the distance is about 70 km. The golden triangle point where Myanmar, Thailand and Laos meet is only half hour drive from Mae Sai.

Tachileik is located in Shan state, in eastern Myanmar. This border town can be reached by air from Kyaing Tone and Heho. Car roads can only be used in the dry season from November to May.
