Sayabouri Located in the low land areas of the country, Sayabouri is sharing the border with Thailand. Main economy is agriculture. Main agricultural products are rice and vegetables. Mekong river is the main blood line of the province providing both water and transport routes to other provinces. Elephants are also still widely used for the transportation of local products here. Tourist attractions are boating in the Mekong river, flower gardens on the hills in north eastern part, the temples, ad handicrafts made in local villages. River , road and air travel are available throughout the year.
Xieng Khouang This is the country of plain of jars. The jars made of earth, are alike the pots or bowls ranging in size from a somewhat small ones to 3.25 meters tall. Many hundreds of different sizes of jars could be seen on the hill. They are believed to be made 2500 to 3000 years ago. This hilly region has other interesting things such as tranquil natural scene and village people life. The province is accessible by road. There are domestic flights to Xam Neuo, the main city of the province.
Bolikhamxai Located in the middle of the country, Bolikhamxai is bordering with Vietnam. Tourist attractions are the temples; the most famous one is Wat Phra Bat which has Footprint of the Buddha. Phoupha Mane is a very popular mountain which as known as the garden of rocks. There are thousands of spectacular looking rocks on the top of the mountain near Ban Nahin town. The province is accessible by roads.
Khammouane The green mountain chains can be seen along the Mekong river in the relatively flat terrain area. This land is very fertile and is an important agricultural region in Laos. Tourist attractions are temples, caves, waterfalls, visiting villages along the river by boat. Roads and river travel are available. One can enter this province from Nakhon Phanom of Thailand.
Savannakhet The province has border check points on both Thailand and Vietnam sides. Thus it is a busy junction for the trading between Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. There are many interesting temples including the Vietnamese style temples and schools, and catholic churches. Road and river travel are available. There are domestic flights to the province.
Salavan There are minority ethnic people living in the provinces. Their ways of living are interesting. The main occupation is agriculture. The southern plateau is very beautiful place to spend the vacation time peacefully. Road and river travel are available in the province.
Sekong Famous for its fruits especially coconuts and flowers. Local villages and coconut farms are worth visiting. Road and river accesses are available.
Champasak Champasak has border with Thailand and Cambodia. One can enter from Chong Mek in Thailand's Ubom Ratchathani province. The geography is quite nice and there are several fine waterfalls, hills, streams and lakes. Khone Pha Pheng waterfall is probably the most beautiful one. In the southern part of the province the Mekong river spreads into more than 10 running ways. Thousands of islets are formed in this part of Mekong, and is called Si Phan Done meaning four thousands islets. Among temples, Wat Phou, located 8 km from Champasak town, is famous. There are road and river links to the province. Domestic flights are also available.
Attapeu This southernmost province of Laos is bordering with Vietnam and Cambodia. Attractions are the river streams, villages, its people and their crafts. Road and river travel is possible.
