Khao Sok national park is located some 735 km from Bangkok by land. One can go from Bangkok through Surat Thani or Ranong. Or people can arrange the trip from Phuket as well.

This area receives rain 9 to 10 months a year. The dry season is roughly from December to February. The park is dominated by spectacular rain forest covered limestone crags rising to 1000 meters. It contains the exciting bio-diversity of a tropical rain forest.

It is believed that some of the large mammals such as tigers, elephants, gaur, banteng and Malay sunbears still exist in this areas. It is also said to be a very good place for the bird watchers.

There are numerous waterfalls and caves there. Some have never been explored properly. Tiang Nam pass is one of the popular places. Apart from hiking into the jungle, rafting and boating are other activities available on the Rajprabha Dam Lake dotted with more than 100 islands. The lake is located about 55 km from the park's headquarters. There is a small park office and a couple of bungalows at the lake. More bungalows and a few lodges are available near the park's headquarters.

It is necessary to get a guide from the park office to take you into the jungle for extended trek of 4 or more days. The park authorities should be informed at least 2 weeks or more in advance.
