Khao Luang mountains

Located 803 km south of Bangkok, Khao Luang contains at least 200 birds , 90 mammals and 31 reptile species. Among the mammals are tiger, leopard, clouded leopard, elephant, Javan mongoose, banteng and gaur.

The areas receive rain for 9 to 10 months a year from March to December.Rainforest is found at the lower slopes and at the higher elevations evergreen forest exist.

Khao Luang mountain rising to 1835 m is the highest peak in the peninsular Thailand and 3rd highest in the country. It takes two days to reach to the submit where one could have very spectacular and amazing view of the surrounding regions.

Climbers need to bring the food and equipment along since there is no such facility on the way to the peak. Permission is necessary to climb and a guide will be arranged by the provincial forest office to lead the climbing group. Contact should be made to Bangkok's Royal Forestry Department or Chief of National Parks about a month ahead. Please see the contact numbers in the information page. The starting point is at a village called Khiriwong located 23 km from Nakhon Sri Thammarat city.

There are some fine waterfalls and fast running streams in the park.

Suggested 3 days, 2 nights trip from Nakhon Sri Thammarat

Day 1
Take a drive to Khiriwong village, the starting point of the climb. Overnight camp on the mountain.

Day 2
Continue climbing till the submit. Overnight camp.

Day 3
Descending. Come back to Nakhon Sri Thammarat by a car.

Note: At the submit the temperature can be very low. So please bring warm clothing.

Estimated cost for 4 to 6 people ( not including the transport between Bangkok and Nakhon Sri Thammarat ) is about 12000 Baht. This should includes transport between Nakhon Sri Thammarat and Starting point, entrance fees and guide hire, tents and equipment and food.
